Will you go right or left? Not your typical bike race!
The BeltGRIND is an annual bicycling odyssey through southern space and time. An adventurous time trial for some, a cycling tour of home for others. It's the first two-wheeled community race along Atlanta's evolving, already beloved, twenty-two-mile former railway.
Leaving from Victory The BeltGrind descends to the bottom of the hill where riders must choose the direction they will run the race. Left or Right.
Checkpoints: Along the 22 miles there will be 5 checkpoints where riders will complete challenges in order to earn a badge and continue around the City. Start training for anything and everything! Course maps will be distributed prior to the race
When: April 2nd 2pm-8pm Rain or Shine
Where: A race around the 22 mile railroad corridor starting and ending in Freedom Park at our beloved Victory Sandwich Bar .
The BeltGRIND is an event rooted in community, awareness, and adventure. As the X-Railroad-turned bike path connects Atlanta’s myriad communities, the BeltGRIND brings awareness to those neighborhoods by providing an annual outlet for bike-able urban adventure and exploration. This event, because of the corridor's current but momentary “in-progress” status, is a powerful means to document and chronicle a history as it’s happening. Atlanta has doubled-down on this symbol of urban redevelopment and the BeltGRIND is a nod to that investment – a celebration of the project’s future via a time-trialed exploration of its raw canvas. Briars, brambles, sand, kudzu, gravel, mud, railroad ties, and poison ivy: BeltGRINDers are riding it all before – in just a few short years – we’re all enjoying one of the coolest completed multi-use trails in the country.
Warning: This will be a memorable suffer-fest where all bikes are welcome but mountain bikes are recommended for the first annual BeltGrind. There will be an alternative route for road bikes... But you must still reach the checkpoints ;)
